“KOKA” AWARDED AT AMERICAN FESTIVAL

Aliaksandr Tsymbaliuk's debut documentary returns with an award for Best Short Documentary Film from Doc.Boston Documentary Film Festival.

Doc.Boston is a relatively new festival, founded just four years ago, and is part of Doc.World – a new global network of documentary film festivals, which also includes festivals in Doc.London, Doc.Berlin, Doc.Sydney and the Ghent Viewpoint Documentary Film Festival.

This year, the title of the event's best short film was awarded to the documentary Koka. Aliaksandr Tsymbaliuk's film focuses on a father and son living on the coast of the Bering Sea. They live in harsh, almost ascetic conditions, and the rhythm of their life is determined by successive fishing expeditions. From a very young age, under his father's watchful eye, Koka has been acquiring practical skills enabling survival in the challenging conditions prevailing in this part of the globe. But when relieved of his duties, he can return to living the carefree life of a child. Filmed with great care, it's an intimate tale about the relationship between father and son, where care and love mix with rigour and discipline.
