“IN LIMBO” WITH A CHANCE FOR EFA
The European Film Academy has just announced the Documentary Selection of 12 feature-length films, which have a chance to be nominated for the European Film Awards. Among this prestigious group is the Polish production In Limbo by Alina Maksimenko.
The European Film Award, presented since 1988, is the most prestigious award given by members of the European Film Academy to European films and considered the equivalent of the American Oscar. Agnieszka Holland is the current head of the academy, who replaced Wim Wenders in this position. The first recipient of the award was Krzysztof Kieślowski for A Short Film About Killing. Polish films have been nominated for it several times, and often won the award.
In Limbo is a record by director Alina Maksimenko, who is caught by the Russian invasion of Ukraine in Irpin near Kyiv. Bombed and cut-off from the rest of the world, the city becomes a trap which she manages to escape with one of the last evacuation groups. She reaches her parents, stranded in a nearby village. For the first few weeks, they try to live a normal life. Mum runs online classes, dad takes care of his cats and local animals, Alina films current events. However, the front is getting closer. A decision must be made – stay or flee?
