“KOKA” AWARDED IN ITALY

The documentary directed by Aliaksandr Tsymbaliuk returns from the Faito Doc Festival in Italy with the International Jury of Professionals's Special Award and the Youth Jury's Special Mention.

The Faito Doc Festival is an international documentary film festival held in the picturesque Italian town of Faito in Campania. Its uniqueness is emphasized by its location at the top of a mountain, offering breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples. The festival focuses on independent cinema, showcasing ambitious and innovative documentaries from around the world. It serves as an important platform for emerging filmmakers, creating an intimate atmosphere that makes it easier to exchange ideas and inspiration.

Aliaksandr Tsymbaliuk's awarded film was made on the remote shores of the Bering Sea, where time appears to stand still. Koka follows a father and son who fish to make a living. They live in austere, almost ascetic conditions dictated by the rhythm of their catches. Under his father's watchful eye, young Koka absorbs the vital skills needed to survive in this unforgiving corner of the world. Yet when relieved of his duties, he retreats into the carefree realm of childhood. The result is a tenderly crafted portrait of a father-son relationship, where love and care interweave with discipline and rigour.
