Award for Fidyk in Jerusalem
Andrzej Fidyk’s film “Yodok Stories”, taking part in International Film Festival in Jerusalem, received the main prize in the most prestigious category, called “In the Spirit of Freedom”.
The award is the sign of recognition of the authors of documentary and feature films whose main themes are human rights and freedom of speech. Fidyk’s documentary is co-produced by Poland and Norway. The Norwegian producers are Piraya Film and Torstein Grude, and the Polish one - Mirosław Grubek of MG Production. The film was produced on commission of TVP1.
“Yodok Sotires”, whose protagonists are exiles from North Korea and ex-prisoners of the concentration camps, who now live in South Korea, describes the regime and the ways used by the characters to escape from their country in an extraordinary way. It also tells us how they try to make a new start in their lives, even though they will never stop feeling guilty for having left their relatives there. Fidyk’s protagonists make a musical based on events from their own lives. Art allows them to tell the most about their experiences.
Polish premiere will take place on 28th August in Gdańsk, within the frames of “Solidarity of Arts”, while the viewers of TVP1 will see it at the beginning of the next year.
