CARTE BLANCHE CRACOVIE – POLISH SCREENING AT NICE SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
On 18th October the 11th edition of Short Film Festival “Un festival c’est trop court” will be officially opened in French Nice. On organizer’s request Krakow Film Foundation prepared the programme “Carte Blanche Cracovie. The Best of Polish Shorts”, presenting eight short films most frequently screened and awarded abroad.
It was during the 10th edition of the festival that Poland was a guest country. There were three Polish screenings presented back then – one devoted to the short films of Roman Polański, another two focusing on the work of Polish young documentaries and Polish animated film spreading from the sixties up till now.
This year five Polish films were accepted to the competition – “The Lost town of Świteź” by Kamil Polak – lately acclaimed The Best Animation at Russian “Message to Man” Short Film Festival, “Charcoal burners” by Piotr Zlotorowicz, “Inventory” by Paweł Łoziński, “Mission to Mars” by Haukur M and “Kinematograph” by Tomasz Bagiński screened in the competition for young animation talents.
The off competition presentation - „Carte Blanche Cracovie” will be one of three partner screenings presented at the festival. Apart from Poland also Ireland – this year’s guest country, and festival Aye Aye held in French Nancy will present their film output to the audience. Polish programme consists of films with the highest number of screenings at international film festivals. There are documentaries such as “A piece of summer” by Marta Minorowicz – Clermont-Ferrand this year’s Grand Prix winner and animations like “Gallery” by Robert Proch and “The Ritual” by Zbigniew Czapla, receiving spectacular interest among festivals’ audiences worldwide. The short fiction genre is represented by Kuba Czekaj’s “Twist and Blood” that was already numerously awarded in Poland, and since its festival release in 2010 it was screened at dozens of festivals abroad.
Nice Short Film Festival will be held between 18th and 23rd October. There will be around 170 films screened that were previously selected from more than 1400 entries sent to Nice from 400 countries.
