“KOKA” WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD AT AMERICAN FESTIVAL
Director Aliaksandr Tsymbaliuk received the Artistic Vision Award at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.
The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival is one of the most significant showcases presenting films of exceptional educational and artistic merit. Its organisers strive to promote documentary cinema amongst an engaged local community, one that embraces thematically diverse films from across the globe. Most importantly, the festival is among the qualifying events for the Academy Awards in the Documentary Short Film category.
The awarded documentary Koka is set in a remote region on the coast of the Bering Sea where time appears to have stood still and a father and son earn their living as fishermen. They live in harsh, almost ascetic conditions, and the rhythm of their life is determined by the rhythm of fishing seasons. Since his earliest years, under his father's watchful eye, Koka has been acquiring vital skills enabling survival in the challenging conditions prevailing in this part of the globe. But when relieved of his duties, he can return to living the carefree life of a child. Filmed with great care, it's an intimate tale about the relationship between father and son, where care and love mix with rigour and discipline.
