MAY FESTIVALS
In May, the widest review of Polish documentary films will take place in Poland - 21 films will be presented in the competitive sections of the 54th Krakow Film Festival, 7 films - in the competitive sections of Planete + Doc. Abroad, Polish documentary films will be shown at six festivals.
The month begins with the Spanish festival Documenta Madrid, in which the short documentary by Monika Pawluczuk, "When I Am A Bird" will compete for the awards. Also at the beginning of the month, a strong representation of Polish documentary film will be presented in the competitive sections at the Canadian festival DOXA. The selectors of this festival invited five films to participate in the competitions: "Our Curse" by Tomasz Śliwiński, "Abu Haraz" by Maciej Drygas, "Small Instruments" by Edyta Wróblewska, "The Governance of Love" by Adela Kaczmarek and "To Fly Or Not To Fly" by Aniela Gabryel.
The documentary by Aniela Gabryel can boast one more screening this month - the film was selected for the competition at the VIS Vienna Independent Shorts Filmfestival. The film by Lidia Duda, "Everything is possible" will have two screenings. This film will compete for the awards in the competition section at the Turkish Flying Broom International Women's Film Festival, and at the end of the month it will be shown during a special screening at the International Women's Film Festival in Seoul. The film "Sati," directed by Bartek Świderski, will compete for the awards in the competition at the BCN Sports Film Festival.
As many as 21 documentary films will compete for the awards in the Polish Competition at the 54th Krakow Film Festival. Seven of them will have a chance to win prizes in international competitions. In the Short Films Competition, there is the film "W. Sisters' Beauty Salon" by Jakub Stożek. The following films were qualified for the Documentary Films Competition by the selection committees: "What's next Karolinka - Norwid and Nicole" by Karolina Bendera, "Let them love, let them dream" by Monika Nawrot and Dominik Górski, as well as "Deep Love" by Jan P. Matuszyński and "Domino Effect" by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski. In the music documentary competition, Poland will be represented by "The New Warsaw" by Bartosz Konopka and "For Being Alive" by Tomasz Nuzban. Seven films will be shown in the competition sections of the festival Planete + Doc. The film by Eliza Kubarska, "Walking Under Water," will participate in the main competition. The following films will compete for the Magic Hour Award: "Three Women" by Anna Jadowska, "1989" by Michał Bielawski, "Leaders" by Paweł Ferdek and "C.K.O.D. 2 - Evacuation Plan" by Piotr Szczepański. The last film will also compete for the Chopin's Nose Award, where it will be the rival of films such as "Bard" by Katarzyna Kościelak and "Minkowski | Saga" by Rafael Lewandowski.
