“CHEMO” AWARDED IN PRAGUE

The International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival One World in Prague ended on 18th March. Paweł Łoziński, the director of “Chemo” was honoured with the best director award.

One World festival in Prague is one of the most important film events devoted to human rights. This year's twelfth edition took place from 10 to 18 March. During the closing ceremony the winners of different contests were announced. Polish documentary “Chemo” was among the winners.

The jury awarded Paweł Łoziński for choosing an extremely difficult subject  and treating it with an ascetic minimalism. The director's  superb ability to conduct the narrative of the documentary and his extraordinary sensitivity to the psychological aspect were also appreciated.

“Chemo” is a group portrait of the Warsaw oncological hospital patients. The protagonists, taking consecutive doses of chemo, talk about everyday issues, their favourite dishes, wedding dresses, but also about their plans for the future, dreams, fear and anxiety, about hope... the video camera records these dialogues with uncommon subtlety. The dialogues are often full of black humour, and  at the same time they reveal to the viewers truths and values which emerge only from the distance of the hospital.
