POLISH CINEMA IN TRIESTE

On February 22, the International Film Festival starts in Trieste. Polish cinema will be a special guest at this edition of the festival. In addition to the rich feature-film programme, in the documentary programme there will be films such as "Brothers" by Wojciech Staroń and "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec will appear, as well as the retrospective of films by Marcin Koszałka, who will also give a masterclass at the festival.

Trieste International Film Festival is held since 1989 and currently is one of the most important festivals in Central and Eastern Europe.

This year, the festival's special event will be the retrospective of documentary films by Marcin Koszałka. The audience in Italy will see: "All Day Together," "The Declaration of Immortality," "Existence," "Till It Hurts," "Let's Run Away from Her," "User firndly death" and "Such a Nice Boy I Gave Birth to." The screening of the films will be accompanied by a masterclass given by the director  - "In conversation with Marcin Koszałka," during which he will talk about his work as a director and cameraman. It is worthwhile to mention that the feature-film début by Koszałka, "The Red Spider," was included in the Main Competition at this edition of the festival.

"A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec will be shown at the festival in the animated film section, whereas "Brothers" by Wojciech Staroń will compete for the award in the documentary film competition.

"Brothers" appeared in Trieste last year, where the film took part in the cooperation meeting When East Meets West, held within the frames of Trieste Film Festival, the aim of which is to enable the filmmakers, producers, distributors and representatives of film funds from the entire Europe to co-operate. There, the film won the award founded by HBO Europe in the section Last Stop Trieste for the best film at the stage of production.

This year, 22 films from around the world qualified for the East Meets West film market, including the documentary film "Mr Jan and his 40 girls" by Jacob Dammas. The project has already been honoured with the EDN Award at Krakow Film Festival within the frames of the Docs To Start programme.

27th edition of Trieste International Film Festival will also include screenings of Polish feature films. In the special section "The Double Life of Polish cinema," the film "11 Minutes" by Jerzy Skolimowski will be shown, as well as Krzysztof Kieślowski retrospective, connected to the Year of Krzysztof Kieślowski, celebrated in 2016, twenty years after his death.  The following films will be also shown in Italy: "Demon" by Marcin Wrona, and in the short film competition: "7 Sheep" by Wiktoria Szymańska and "What I Want" by Damian Kocur.
