SILVER EYE AWARD FOR POLISH DOCUMENTARIES!
On the 26th October, two events, which can be considered the most important ones in the world of documentary cinema, started. These include 14th International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava and the accompanying film market East Silver. During the opening ceremony of this unique event, the winners of the Silver Eye award were announced. Among them there were Polish films.
Silver Eye is an award given to the best documentary in three categories: feature-long, medium and short. In each of them there are eleven films, nominated from among the ones qualified for the East Silver Market, that is, the film market taking place within the frames of the Festival in Jihlava.
Among the films nominated for this year's Silver Eye, there was as much as ten Polish films, and four of them were awarded.
In the short film category, the Silver Eye award went to Daniel Zieliński for the documentary “That’s life...” repeating last year's success of Marcin Janos Krawczyk's film “Six Weeks”. In the same category, “The Work of the Machines” by Michał Mądracki, Maciej Mądracki and Gilles Lepore also received an award, as well as “Plain landscape with a cradle” by Arkadiusz Biedrzycki.
In addition, in the feature-long category the Silver Eye award went to Michał Marczak for “At the edge of Russia”.
14th International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava lasts until 31st October, when the winners of the festival competition are announced. Two Polish documentaries take part in the competition: “Inventory” by Paweł Łoziński and “Mother” by Jakub Piątek.
It is worth adding that on the 28th October at the festival in Jihlava there is “Polish Day” panel, which consists of lectures, presentations and meetings with Polish film producers, directors and the representatives of institutions, organisations and film schools. The “Polish Day” is organised by the Documentary Film Institute in Prague, Polish Film Institute in Warsaw and Krakow Film Foundation.
