POLISH-GERMAN PROJECT SELECTED FOR DOK CO-PRO MARKET
The prestigious DOK Co-Pro Market in Leipzig has announced this year's selected projects, with Andrei Kutsila's Letters making the cut.
The DOK Co-Pro Market offers two days of intensive networking designed to foster international co-productions and help producers secure funding. Beyond one-to-one meetings, its program features group discussions and case studies exploring both the opportunities and challenges within the international co-production landscape. This year's DOK Co-Pro Market is set to take place on 28-29 October.
The selected project tells the story of Belarusian activist Vitold Ashurak, who wrote to his mother expressing the profound importance of her love and support. His final letter from prison, where he was tortured and died under unexplained circumstances, never reached her. Following the peaceful protests in Belarus in 2020, the regime crushed the resistance movement, resulting in numerous deaths and imprisonments. Letters remain the sole connection between prisoners and the outside world, offering glimpses into their true feelings – pain, despair, love, and hope. Based on this correspondence, the film will present diverse perspectives from people of various backgrounds, all facing growing repression and fear in their country.
