“BLOODLINE” SELECTED FOR IDFA COMPETITION
Wojciech Węglarz's latest documentary has earned a coveted spot in the Competition for Short Documentary at the prestigious IDFA festival, where it will also celebrate its world premiere.
The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) stands as the world's largest and most influential documentary film festival. Drawing more than 280,000 viewers annually, including over 3000 industry professionals, IDFA showcases films that often go on to achieve significant success in the festival circuit.
The short documentary Bloodline is set in Europe's oldest forest, where a formidable fence marking the Poland-Belarus border stands as a barrier to prevent refugees from entering the European Union. What are the unintended consequences of such divisions? Bloodline takes an ingenious approach, shifting focus from human subjects to follow the plight of a European bison.
We witness a distressed, panting beast stranded on one side of the barrier, watching helplessly its herd on the other side. The bison observes a deer — similarly isolated from its group — fall prey to wolves. The passing border patrol remains oblivious to the unfolding drama, leaving filmmaker Wojciech Węglarz as the sole witness to what is happening.
