TWO AWARDS FOR POLISH CO-PRODUCTION AT SUNNY SIDE OF THE DOC
A Canadian-German-Polish documentary about Leonard Cohen has received two awards at Sunny Side of the Doc. The filmmakers secured one of the main prizes, the Best Arts & Entertainment Pitch, as well as a special mention in the form of the IMZ Award.
Sunny Side of the Doc is one of Europe's most significant events aimed at supporting the documentary industry. The marketplace offers comprehensive promotional opportunities for film productions (ranging from the presentation of projects in development to the promotion of completed films). It serves as a meeting place for producers, festival organisers, distributors, and representatives of TV networks responsible for selling and acquiring rights to documentary films. Accredited producers and film professionals can also take advantage of the unique opportunity to participate in numerous pitching sessions, seminars, meetings, workshops, and panel discussions addressing the most current topics related to global documentary production.
The awarded project "Leonard Cohen: Behind the Iron Curtain" by Eric Bednarski is a feature-length documentary about the legendary singer and poet Leonard Cohen's groundbreaking concert tour in Poland in 1985. It chronicles how his music inspired a generation of Poles fighting to end Soviet rule. The film is presented through previously unpublished archival materials and unprecedented access to individuals who were present at the time. The documentary is produced by Nomad Films Inc. (Canada), Fireglory Pictures GmbH (Germany), and Silver Frame (Poland).
