“THE CHILD OF DUST” WINS TOP AWARD AT MILAN FILM FESTIVAL
During the 11th edition of the Visioni dal Mondo International Documentary Festival in Milan, the film “Child of Dust” directed by Weronika Mliczewska won the main prize in the international competition in the Best Documentary Film category.
The successful verdict was decided by an international jury consisting of Carolin Halperin (programming editor at Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg / ARTE), Artur Liebhart (director of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival), and Kilian Kiefel (documentary film distribution manager at Mediawan Rights).
The jury motivated its choice with the following words:
"a heartbreaking film, masterfully shot and deeply human. This sensitive portrait allows us to understand not only her journey but also the depth of the trauma. The director created not only a powerful story but a profoundly emotional film that continues to resonate long after the end credits".
The Child of Dust” tells the story of Sang, one of hundreds of thousands of children fathered by American soldiers during the Vietnam War. Today, as a mature man, he would like to meet his biological father. The trip to the US means a lot to him, but when he meets his new family, nothing is what he expected. The journey in search of his own identity and belonging turns into a story of past hurts, unresolved traumas, and cultural differences. Moving between two continents, the film shows up close how this extraordinary meeting after many years affected both sides and what it revealed in the process.
The film is an international co-production between Poland, Vietnam, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Qatar, and was financially supported by the Polish Film Institute.
