"WOMEN AND WAR" PROJECT WINS AWARD AT BALTIC SEA DOCS
After the second day of pitching at Baltic Sea Docs, awards were presented to outstanding documentary projects from across the region. Among the winners was the Polish project "Women and War", directed by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski.
The organizers announced the list of awarded titles, among which is "Women and War", winner of the Movies That Matter Award. The project, a Polish-German-Ukrainian co-production, is being developed through the collaboration of Maciej Kubicki (Telemark), Hans-Robert Eisenhauer (Ventana Film), and Natalie Krasilnikova (Art Dialog).
"Women and War" tells the story of three Ukrainian women – Julia, Irina, and Olena – who endured captivity, torture, and sexual violence. Confronting the trauma of war, the protagonists undergo therapy in an effort to reclaim their lives. Through their courageous struggle to heal, the documentary offers a powerful female perspective, focusing on resilience, determination, and the process of rebuilding after the lasting scars of war.
Baltic Sea Docs is a pitching forum combined with workshops and film screenings, held in Riga. The event is dedicated to projects from the Baltic countries as well as productions connected to the Baltic Sea region through their subject matter.
This year’s edition took place from August 31 to September 5.
