POLISH DOCUMENTARIES THE WINNERS OF ANASY DOCUMENTARY AWARDS
Anasy Documentary Awards are given out. From among several dozen documentary films from around the world, two Polish ones received the highest distinctions.
Anasy Documentary Awards is one of the largest film events in the Arabic world. It specializes in the documentary cinema. This year’s edition took place from 25th April to 9th May in Abu Dhabi. In the competition screenings, several documentaries from different corners of the world, also from Poland, were shown. Even more, two representatives of Polish cinematography received extremely high awards. The Silver Award went to Beata Dzianowicz for the film “Kites” and the Best Director award was given to Paweł Łoziński, the author of the documentary “Chemo”.
“Kites” are a film record of contemporary Kabul from the perspective of a seventeen-year-old. The documentary tells also about the film passion, born in the young painters and musicians. Using the camera, Jacek Petrycki traces the way through which the students go: from the feverish attempts at taking an impressive shot of the rushing wheels of rickshaw, through the time when the video camera stops to be a toy and becomes a tool, to this extraordinary moment when standing opposite their protagonists, they forget about the camera and start to listen.
“Chemo” is a collective portrait of the Warsaw oncologic clinic’s patients. The protagonists, taking another dose of “chemo” talk about everyday matters, their favourite dishes, wedding dresses but also their plans for the future, dreams, fear and anxiety, about hope… The video camera records these dialogues, often full with humour and irony, with great subtlety, and at the same time revealing to the viewers the truths and values, which emerge from the distance of the hospital.
