Polish films awarded in Georgia
At recently finished Batumi International Film Festival in Georgia three Polish productions found themselves among the awarded films. Katarzyna Klimkiewicz, Bartek Konopka and Jakub Piątek were those, who received awards in both of the main competitions.
Festival in Batumi (Batumi International Art-House Film Festival-BIAFF), which fifth edition was held between 12th and 19th September, despite its short tradition, managed to select and show a range of very interesting and compelling films presented in various sections – both non and competitive.
Competitive programme of the georgian festival is divided into two main selections: Main International Competition and Young Filmmakers Competition.
At this year’s edition of the festival Polish films were triumfators in both selections. First Bartek Konopka’s „Rabbit a la Berlin” was awarded a Special Prize by the jury. Film shows the collapse of the Berlin Wall seen through the eyes of rabbits inhabitating the famous walls.
In the Young Filmmakers competition Grand Prix was awarded to the film „Mother” directed by Jakub Piątek, which poignantly portrays life of an old woman regulary visiting her son in the prison. Furthermore, in the same competition, also Katarzyna Klimkiewicz’s „Hanoi-Warsaw” receive the award for the Best Film. „Hanoi –Warsaw” is a story of a young Vietnameese who illegaly gets to Poland trying to reach Warsaw. Her journey to the capital city brigs her only humiliation, fear and disapoitments.
