POLISH DOCUMENTARY FILMS NOMINATED FOR SILVER EYE AWARD

During the East Silver film market that takes place along with the International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava, Silver Eye awards are given for the best documentaries from Central and Eastern Europe. Polish productions will also take part in this year’s competition.


ABOUT EAST SILVER

East Silver is a unique event which promotes producers and distributors from Central and Eastern Europe. Held during the International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava, almost every year East Silver presents about 350 films from over 29 countries.

East Silver is a film market with an online video library. It is available for registered professionals all year long. The market participants also receive a comprehensive printed directory, which is an invaluable source of information about the latest documentary productions from Central and Eastern Europe.


THIS YEAR’S SILVER EYE NOMINATIONS

From the films presented at the East Silver market a selection committee nominates documentary films for Silver Eye. Silver Eye is an award for the best feature, mid, and short length documentary. 

Five Polish films have been nominated for this year’s Silver Eye award: “The Argentinian Lesson” by Wojciech Staroń, “Doctors” by Tomasz Wolski, “Phnom Penh Lullaby” by Paweł Kloc, “Tonia and Her Children” by Marcel Łoziński, and “Paparazzi” by Piotr Bernaś.

The Silver Eye winners will be announced during the gala which will end the 15th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava.


PREVIOUS WINNERS

Polish documentary film-makers have been gathering the awards from the first edition of Silver Eye onwards. In 2009, "Rabbit a la Berlin" by Bartek Konopka and "Six Weeks" by Marcin Janos Krawczyk received grand prix in their categories, and "Sidetrack" by Anna Kazejak – a special mention. Last year in the category of short documentary film Silver Eye went to Daniel Zieliński for the film "That's life ...", and "The Work of the Machines" directed by Michał Mądracki, Maciej Mądracki, and Gilles Lepore, and "Plain Landscape with a Cradle" by Arkadiusz Biedrzycki received a special mention. In feature category the award went to Michał Marczak for his film “At the Edge of Russia”.


This year’s East Silver will be held between 25-30 October.
