‘PAPARAZZI’ ON DVD IN ‘DOX’ MAGAZINE

A DVD with the European Film Award nominee ‘Paparazzi’ by Piotr Bernaś has been attached to the autumn issue of the International Documentary Film Magazine ‘DOX’.

Produced by Wajda Studio, the documentary by Piotr Bernaś tells the inside story of the controversial and criticised profession of the paparazzo. ‘Paparazzi’ is the dramatic story of a man who makes controversial choices on a daily basis, and then bears their consequences on emotional, personal and ethical grounds. The title character (Przemysław Stoppa) turns out to be as ruthless towards himself as he is towards the world in which he hunts for topics.

Danish critic Steffen Moestrup writes in the DOX that Piotr Bernaś's film is different from other documentaries dealing with the paparazzo profession. The Polish production not only uses dynamic cinematography that reflects an ordinary day in the life of a paparazzo, with all its pressures and inner fever, but it also focuses on its protagonist.

The European Film Academy Award jury's verdict justified the prize for the film, stating that 'the Polish film Paparazzi follows the work of a professional doing the dirty job of a tabloid press photographer, and at the same time deals with the soul of a man facing the cruel, contemporary reality of history and the minor facts of life. After this film there is a good chance that Polański will allow the photographer to take his picture.'

The film's director Piotr Bernaś says: ‘Did I let myself be fooled? Did I want to be fooled? The uncertainty about Przemek will remain with me until the end... But what remains there too is a belief in the good side of the man, and the possibility of his transformation.’ While ‘Paparazzi’ is a film about the world of lost values and twisted principles - it shows that there is always a chance to decide what kind of man you will be tomorrow.
