Polish Documentarists at the Film Festival in Iran
At the beginning of November six Polish documentaries are going to be shown at the International Documentary Film Festival „Cinema Verite” taking place in Iran. The audience in Teheran will have the opportunity of watching films directed by Kalina Alabrudzińska, Beata Dzianowicz, Renata Gabryjelska, Matej Bobrik, Jakub Piątek and Paweł Łoziński.
„Directon: Iceland” directed by Kalina Alabrudzińska has been selected for the main competition at „Cinema Verite”. Film tells the story of three women – a grandmother, daughter and grandaughter - that decided to fly to distant Iceland in order to find the place where their relative had been buried. Other films that will also compete for the main award in the same competition are: „Mother” directed by Jakub Piątek - a poignant story about an old woman visiting her son in prison and Paweł Łoziński’s „Chemo”, portraying the patients of oncology ward in one of the Polish hospitals. The last film nominated for the main prize is „Where the Sun doesn’t rush” by Matej Bobrik which in a humorous way tells a story of the small Slovakian village.
Aside from participation in the main competition, Polish films will be also screened in the acompanying screenings. First of them, „Kites” directed by Beata Dzianowicz, shows modern Kabul from the perspective of seventeen year old boy, the other „Getting on” – made by Renata Gabryjelska – presented in the „Women&Documentary” section, portrays a complicated relationship between mother and a daughter.
This year’s, fourth edition of International Documentary Festival „Cinema Verite” in Iran will take place from 8th till 12th November. The festival is being organized by DEFC (Documentary and Experimantal Film Center) – one of the biggest production, distribution and above all promotion centres for feature, documentary and animation films in the Middle East. DEFC produces dozen of films anually, also in cooperation with international producers and TV broadcasters.
