POLISH DOCUMENTARY WITH A SPECIAL MENTION AT THE FESTIVAL IN AZERBAIJAN
The film “Double Trouble” directed by Emilia Śniegoska received a Special Mention at this year’s DokuBaku International Documentary Film Festival, held from October 13–19. It is the first and only international documentary film festival in Azerbaijan, bringing together filmmakers from around the world.
Śniegoska’s film was presented in the DokuTam competition section, dedicated to documentaries distinguished by powerful storytelling, bold artistic vision, and authentic local perspectives that together reflect the richness and diversity of our contemporary world.
“Double Trouble” tells a moving story of two women – Hanka and Bronka – Polish friends living in a small village in Romania, where life follows the rhythm of tradition and memory. Both widows and mothers of adult children who have emigrated in search of a better life, they find strength in friendship, humor, and everyday rituals. When faced with a decision that may change their fate, the film becomes a reflection on the passage of time, community, and feminine resilience.
The jury justified its decision with the following statement:
“For taking us to a remarkable place - a Polish village in Romania - and introducing us to two extraordinary women living in isolation yet in deep daily connection. Through their dialogue with memory, the present, and the future, and with humor despite the hardship of everyday life, the film reveals a tender and powerful story”.
The film was produced with the support of the Polish Film Institute.
